Why we chose Rajasthan's only hill station — and what kind of hotel we set out to make.
A hill worth staying for
Most travellers race through Mount Abu — a lake selfie, a temple visit, a sunset, gone by morning. We kept coming back and staying longer. The cool air after the desert plains, the mist that pours over the ridge at dawn, the unhurried rhythm of India's old hill stations — it deserved more than a stopover.
So we built the house we always wished existed here: small enough to stay personal, considered enough to feel special, and higher than anyone else dared. Guru Shikhar Heightsopened its doors at the top of the mountain — a minute's walk from the Guru Shikhar Temple — with a kitchen that cooks like a home and a promise to never feel like a chain hotel.

Local stone, deodar wood, Sirohi farm produce and a team largely from Mount Abu itself. The house belongs to its hill.

Mount Abu rises out of southern Rajasthan like an island of green — the only hill station in the state, ringed by the Aravallis, one of the oldest mountain ranges on Earth. The house sits at its highest point, beside the Guru Shikhar Temple, with 360° views over the hills, the valleys and the town — and Nakki Lake, the Dilwara Temples and Sunset Point a scenic drive below.
